our mission
Kickapoo is a mosaic of prairie, oak and hickory woodlands, savannas and wetlands located a few miles northwest of Oregon, Illinois – about 100 miles west of Chicago. The acreage straddles Mud Creek which runs roughly from west to east for about 5 miles from Mt. Morris, Illinois to the Rock River.
The Kickapoo Mud Creek Nature Conservancy was created to attract and educate visitors and partner organizations as well as inspire sustainable development and advance nature conservation.
Our hope is to offer a fresh perspective, conversational exchange and an engaging experience where individuals, ranging in experience levels and interests, can connect directly with Kickapoo’s values, history, and projects.
The Conservancy exists to protect, preserve, and re-naturalize the land in Mud Creek watershed while developing environmentally considerate demonstration projects and fostering information exchange with like-minded organizations both locally and more broadly.
