Kickapoo is a mosaic of prairie, oak and hickory woodlands, savannas and wetlands. The Acreage straddles Mud Creek and is located a few miles northwest of Oregon, Illinois (about 100 miles west of Chicago).
Mud Creek runs roughly from west to east for about 5 miles from Mt. Morris, Illinois to the Rock River. The Acreage is located on the east side of Limekiln Road, from ridgeline to ridgeline, very close to the Stronghold, a small conference, retreat, and camping center owned by Blackhawk Presbytery.
Kickapoo Library, located at the Conservancy, contains materials giving a more in depth look at the Conservancy, its history—including geological past—and the people who have lived on it.
